The Segganwell Cottages were used to house estate workers and in 1891 a total of 14 people lived here. William Kirkland, an assistant shepherd, and his wife and family of 4 lived in North Segganwell (two of his sons worked as gardeners on the estate); and Thomas Davidson, the house carter, and his wife and 6 children lived in South Segganwell (next door).
NB. The Segganwell Cottages can be reached only by a steep stairway of over 100 steps, and so are not suitable for mobility-impaired people.
Sleeps 4. One double bedroom with a set of bunk beds built into a recess. Sitting room, small kitchen and shower room with WC.
For larger family/group bookings, accommodation is also available at South Segganwell, the Royal Artillery Cottage and the Brewhouse Flat.

The Royal Artillery cottage was endowed by the Royal Artillery after the Second World War for the use of disabled ex-servicemen, and then for a while was used only by ex-servicemen from the Erskine Memorial Hospital. Originally part of the Coach House and Stables complex, the cottage provided living quarters for the coachmen, grooms and stable-boys and for the footmen and other male domestic servants in the Castle.
This charming sandstone cottage has been refurbished and now provides excellent facilities for disabled guests. Situated within the cobbled Clock Tower Courtyard next to the castle, its position on the cliff edge gives fine sea views from each of the comfortably furnished rooms. No nursing or medical backup is provided. Car parking is available opposite the cottage. We also welcome bookings from able-bodied parties.
Two twin bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen, bathroom with separate bath and wheelchair-accessible shower with seat.
