The Precinct House, situated next door to The Pend (also let through the Trust), belongs to a period two centuries later than its neighbour, and is a townhouse typical of the vernacular Scottish Georgian architecture of the burgh. The name refers to the early monastic precinct, which defined the back gardens of later houses. Just up the small hill behind the house are the ruins of the cathedral, which give Whithorn the historic title of the smallest city of Scotland.
The property is privately owned and has been carefully refurbished in Georgian style. Its most popular features are the heated glass-roofed atrium joining its two original buildings, perfect for indoor dining, and a secluded sunny courtyard outdoors.
Precinct House is adjacent to the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre, with its interpretation of one of the earliest Christian sites in Scotland, which is a stone’s throw away from the back garden.
Master bedroom with king-size four-poster bed on the first floor and small single bedroom with compact box bed.
On the ground floor: a sitting room with period grate, glass-roofed dining room, kitchen and shower room. Enclosed courtyard outside with garden furniture and barbecue.
